About

HOW WE BEGAN

Our business began with our love for the horse. We took in a young boy several years ago and adopted him as our own. He had a natural ability that I’ve never seen before in regards to horsemanship. Since we don’t have any children of our own, he was a blessing to my wife and I. His dream was to become a trainer and win the Kentucky Derby. So we took our small operation and started growing the business, all the while looking for better mares to breed to better sires, spending hour upon hour every day studying everything we could to learn and understand how to breed the best with what we had.

We made a lot of mistakes but without those mistakes its difficult to learn, grow and experience high levels of success. The depth of knowledge that we pursued were limitless, the science, the mental aspects of horses, conformation, blood, family history and so much more took us into a journey that was wonderfully frustrating and highly rewarding.

Unfortunately, my son was killed in a traffic accident on his way back from the feed store to the farm on a rare foggy day. It was a terrible tragedy and a great loss to our industry not to mention our hearts that will always have a hole which will never completely fill. I made a decision to carry on our dream. So, I quit my job and set out to breed, train, and develop the finest thoroughbred racers that I could. I also developed excellent relationships with several top farms in Kentucky of which we have partnered with two of them on several horses. We own several seasons to top stallions in Kentucky and through trial and error, have made some outstanding decisions on some of the finest Thoroughbred race horse trainers in the nation that are genuinely concerned with the success and wellbeing of our prized Thoroughbred racehorses.

OUR PASSION IN BREEDING A RACEHORSE

My wife and I love horses. We love everything about them. To take a mare and select the best sire for her, get the news that she is in foal, go through the entire year waiting for her to foal, and then getting the news or being there as she delivers this absolutely beautiful baby, watching the foal stand and nurse for the first time, and watching her momma gently lick and love her newborn is a miracle in and of its self, it is so amazing. Then, watching the youngster go outside and play for the first time, challenge other foals, and grow stronger with each passing day is so rewarding – words can’t explain it.

Throughout the next year as the foal becomes a yearling and then emerges into a two-year-old, developing into exactly what you envisioned during all those nights spent selecting the perfect mating is one of the greatest wonders of life. Watching your horse jog for the first time, then gallop, then head to the track, preparing for their journey as a Thoroughbred racehorse is so fulfilling. The years invested are coming to fruition.

Reports of the progress come in from the trainer and the anticipation builds. You watch as your horse walks through the starting gate for the first time and another as they explode out of it. Your phone lights up each week as the published works come in. You remember the moment your horse was born, that special new born foal and today standing before you is this majestic athlete who’s mentally confident, physically tuned and ready to compete.

Then the day comes when your horse is entered in their first race. The days up to that race seem like years. The day of the race, seconds tick by like hours. You are living a dream, but it’s real. Your horse enters the paddock looking like a dream, because it is. The jockey enters, wearing the silks that you designed and mounts your horse. They then head to the track for their first race and let me tell you it’s a feeling as if you are floating. Your heart is pounding; your eyes fill with tears of joy. The announcer broadcasts your horse, then your name, then the trainer’s name. The feeling you experience as your horse parades past you is unexplainable. After a short warm up, your horse enters the starting gates along with all the others, and for a brief moment, all time stops. And then, the gates spring open, and they are off.
